Re-Certification

​NMCBBHP requires recertification every two years in order to maintain the high standards of professional practice and to ensure that certified professionals maintain up-to-date in the field.  You will receive an email in advance of your recertification date, directing you to complete the recertification application online via your Certemy account.

  • Hold a current credential issued by NMCBBHP that is in good standing;
  • Complete approved continuing education related to your credential (including six hours of professional ethics and responsibilities) specific to your credential.  Credits must be earned within the past two-year certification period;
  • Complete a recertification application
  • Verify that you have reviewed, read, and will uphold in your practice, the current NMCBBHP Code of Ethical conduct specific to your credential and the Statement of Understanding

The re-certification process includes submitting documentation of forty (40) hours of continued education course and training related to YOUR specific credential. The CEU hours must have been accumulated during your certification period.  Follow the checklist to start the process of gathering all the required documents. 

  • Fill out the application and sign it.
  • List all training and educational events on the Training Summary Form:
    • Title of training/course;
    • Sponsor/Organization/Instructor’s name or NMCBBHP-approved Provider #;
    • Date of training;
    • The number of Continuing Education hours that were provided.
    • Copies of transcripts and continuing education certificates. (training certificates must be signed by the trainer and state the number of CE hours provided for the course.
    • Provide copies of all training attended.

NOTE: No more than 50% of CE hours can be from online courses. If you are the trainer for a course, you can claim 25% of the approved CEs as your CEUs for renewal.

  • Include a letter of endorsement by your current Supervisor.  The letter must be signed and on agency letterhead.  If you are unemployed, provide a letter from a colleague or peer who can attest to your work in the field of counseling, prevention, or peer support services.
  • Include your current Original Certificate.
  • Pay a re-certification fee (if required) for renewal. It must be made payable to NMCBBHP, Inc.
  • Make a copy of your application and documents for your records.

**Due to the Pandemic, we are currently accepting 100% of CE hours for online courses through December 2022. Please include the CE provider, the number of contact hours, the website, training contact information, and the agenda if available. If you want to make sure your online hours are acceptable for your credential, please email info@nmcbbhp.org with Online CE Approval in the subject line of your email for a timely response.

Expired Credential: When your certificate is expired, you are considered non-certified and your credential will be placed on inactive status. This board must receive a completed application with the required documentation and be approved within 90 days of the certificate expiration date.  A late fee must be included with the application for certification. (Inactive status means that your credential is no longer valid until it is reinstated).

The following Continuing Education hours are required for IC&RC related credentials as part of the overall 40 CEU hours

Certified Prevention Intern (CPI) and Prevention Specialist (PS):

Thirty-four (34) hours must be in  ATOD Prevention or General Prevention hours

Six (6) hours must be in Prevention Ethics and Responsibilities.

Senior Certified Prevention Specialist (SCPS):

Twenty-eight (28) hours must be in ATOD Prevention or General Prevention hours.

Six (6) hours must be in Prevention Ethics and Responsibilities.

Six (6) hours must be Leadership, Management, or Supervisor Skills related to the Behavioral Health Field.

Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC):

Thirty-four (34) hours must be in Counseling and/or Behavioral Health-related hours

Six (6) hours must be in Counseling, Legal or Professional Ethics and Responsibilities.

Certified Clinical Supervisor (CS)

Thirty-one (31) hours must be in Counseling and/or Behavioral Health hours.

Six (6) hours must be in Professional Ethics and Responsibilities.

Three (3) hours must be Leadership, Management, or Supervisor Skills related to the Behavioral Health Field.

The following Continuing Education hours are required for NM State Credentials CPSW, CWF, and CFPSW as a part of the overall 40 CEU hours

Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW):

Six (6) hours must be of professional ethics and responsibilities

Six (6) hours must be in Cultural Competency

Twenty-eight (28) hours must be in Behavioral Health, Social Work hours, and/or related to peer support services.

Certified Peer Support Worker with the Supportive Housing endorsement (CPSW/CSHPS)

Six (6) hours must be of professional ethics and responsibilities

Six (6) hours must be in Cultural Competency

Ten (10) hours must be on topics associated with housing and/or supportive services such as; supportive housing (conferences presented by the Coalition to End Homelessness, Mortgage Finance Authority, BHSD Housing Program), Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Trauma-Informed or Housing Quality Standards. Eighteen (18) hours must be in Behavioral Health, Social Work, and/or related to peer support services.

Certified Wraparound Facilitator (CWF)

Six (6) hours must be of professional ethics and responsibilities and Cultural Competency

Twelve (12) hours must be related to the performance domains of Wraparound Values and Elements, Engagement; Action Planning; Teaming; Safety Planning; Coordination; Prioritization and Mobilization of Time and Other Resources. Twenty-two (22) hours must be in the field of Behavioral Health

Certified Family Peer Support Worker (CFPSW)

Six (6) hours must be in professional ethics and responsibilities

Six (6) hours must be in Cultural Competency

Twenty-eight hours must be related to the child-serving system such as children’s mental health, special education, protective services, juvenile justice services, etc.

Other CE hours that are earned through non-approved providers will require a fee for a review of those hours and must include an agenda of the training, course description and/or syllabus.
